Dumbo - Extra Credit

1) Relate what was discussed in class or the text to the screening.

Animation being around from earlier then 1908 was a new era to look upon. Frame by Frame manipulation of the images in a time -based media were created rather than recorded. The shortest of Disney Major animated features Dumbo involves a baby elephant with unusually large ears. Ostracized from the rest of the circus animals, Dumbo is even separated from his mother. Dumbo was film in December 1941.

2) Find a related article (on the film, director, studio, actor/actress, artistic content, etc.) and summarize the content. You may use the library or the internet. Cite the article or copy the url to your journal entry. Summarize in your own words the related article but do not plagiarize any content.

The article refers to Dumbo being a family film, which aligns with my views of the film. It was a humorous, family oriented, educational film. That both children and parents would enjoy. I also learned that composers Oliver Wallace and Frank Churchhill won Oscars for the film's musical. The themes in the movie include friendship, tolerance of differences and the importance of believing in yourself.

3) Apply the article to the film screened in class. How did the article support or change the way you thought about the film, director, content, etc.?

The way I thought about the phone goes along with the article , but by reading the article I was reminded that learning to be yourself and finding courage to fight against the odds against you is something the article referenced on. Dumbo is a cunning little fellow , more lovable with tiny mole skin trunk, soft and trusting blue eyes , and ears the size of flapping sails.

 4) Write a critical analysis of the film, including your personal opinion, formed as a result of the screening, class discussions, text material and the article. I am less interested in whether you liked or disliked a film, (although that can be part of this) than I am in your understanding of its place in film history or the contributions of the director.

Dumbo is a cunning little fellow, more lovable than Dopey, and likewise as dumb, with tiny, mole skin trunk, soft and trusting blue eyes, and ears the size of flapping sails. Dumbo although is an animation teaches life lessons and Disney shined light on what it is like to be tease not only by peers of the younger age but by adults as well. The color fits, and the timing of the film for children attention span is also considerably reasonable. There was little to no horrific things in it that would frighten kids, but what parents may question is the beginning where an army  of storks were delivering babies to circus animals , today's modern parents may question that a bit. Besides that little slip Dumbo is an animation I will show to my future children, it is a classic and self-teaching.
